The opener just locks up and will not move or it chews up any paper label and gets it into the partially opened can. The whole system depends on a cheap piece of plactic that attaches the arm to the motor casing.I've tried numerous gyrations and grips to no avail; it just doesn't work. There's a lot of sloppy play in the arm, which is not adjustable, and I have not successfully opened a single can w/o using great force and a manual opener to finish the job. My wife hates it and will not/cannot use it.. I will probably take it apart and use the motor and gears to make something that at least will work. Product is NOT suppose to do that, but when I looked more closely the top housing is plastic and the fitting on the back of the handle (behind the magnet) is plastic. The plastic fitting goes inside a plastic-receiver housing, on the upper part of the base unit.The idea that this is a "stainless steel" or "deluxe" product is deceptive and misleading advertising. It is designed to trick or dupe even the most discerning consumers, at point of sale. The engineering specifications, going out to a sub-contractor or manufacturer from Cuisinart�, is being sent to China, but understand it is the U.S. based firm who is calling for plastic at the fulcrum point (where handle attaches to base unit).
